OK, even though we lost to ‘Gilligans Five-0′ last nite (2-3), our pool team (‘Dead Strokes’) still got a 1st. place for this session since we beat them 4-1 the first time.

Pool League Playoffs Update 1/13/12

This past weekend Chick’s team “Dead Strokes” played at the Invitational Tournament with PACS and unfortunately we did not qualify for top 4 teams to win some $$$. We were only couple of games short.

However the other team from Chick’s Tavern did go in to semifinals. They lost by one game to “Undisputed”.

Overall it was a good showing for both teams and we are looking forward for the next tournament.

Also, “Dead Strokes” captain Pete Servatuis received and award as the best Captain in the League.

Congrats to Pete!!!

Balls 4 Walls – Pool Tournament

There will be a Billiard Tournament at Club Med Pool Hall on April 9th 2011. Money and Donations will be collected to benefit homeless Veterans of The Greater Harrisburg Area by Sons of the Legion Post 998 and 18th District VFW. Remembering Bob Miller

On 10/2/2010 our pool mate and a dear friend Bob Miller has passes away. He will be remembered as a funny man and a good friend who would always joke and who was always ready to shoot some pool . Sometimes he would come to our pool matches right from the airport with his luggage with him. He would never let his team down even during times when he was having health problems. We will always miss him. Rest in peace Bob.

Making the 8 Ball on the Break

One of the most beautiful and exciting joys in the game is when you make the 8 ball on the break. The proper striking point of the cue ball on the second ball in the rack…combined with the proper cue ball position in relation to the side cushion will help you to make the illusive 8 ball on the break in your quest for game success — Rack Up A Victory!!

(For those of you who notice the balls changed, we edited the video so as to illustrate the point. It took Dr. Cue only 3 trys to make the 8, which is pretty impressive. )

One of the most common skills that fascinate players is the jump shot. Many believe they can not jump, when in fact almost everyone that has moved a cue at a rapid rate of acceleration has in fact jumped. A skipping action of the cue ball occurs when struck at a fast speed due to the tip causing a slight downward pressure on it. Anyone that has ever thrown a stone across water has the principle in hand, so to speak, using speed and a slight incline of the motion being applied to achieve this beauty! A faster and more inclined cue generally creates a higher jump effect!
